Frequently Asked Questions
Why Sugaring?
Sugaring is a gentle hair removal service and when paired with soothing aftercare and correct homecare, will keep your skin looking healthy and glowing. It is gentler than wax because it does not stick to live skin tissue. Because it removes the hair in the natural direction of growth there is less breakage and less irritation to the outside of the follicle.
How long does it last?
After Sugaring you should have several weeks before your hair grows back in fully. We recommend coming in every 3 to 6 weeks depending on the body area and your hair growth cycles.
Does it hurt?
Because we are removing the hair from the roots, there is discomfort and some pain. However, because sugar exfoliates so gently, the pain is very minimal and goes away quickly. Soothing aftercare is helpful for relief of temporary discomfort.
How long should my hair be?
Sugaring is best done when hair is about 1/8 to 1/4 of an inch long, or no longer than a grain of long grain rice. This allows the sugar to get into the follicles and remove the hair without breakage. We recommend at least 10 days to 2 weeks after shaving for best results.
What should I do before my appointment?
It is helpful if you gently exfoliate the area 48 hours before your appointment. Please do not apply any lotions, body oils or deodorant to the area the day of treatment. If you have worked out the day of treatment, please take a cool shower before you come in.
What about my period?
Sugaring can be done while on your period, and it is helpful to stay regular and consistent with your services for the best result. However, some clients may feel extra sensitive right before and while on their period.
What if I am Diabetic?
Sugaring is a safe and effective hair removal service for diabetic clients. Any excess sugar is removed from the skin at the end of the service, and it will not increase blood sugar. In fact, because the sugaring service is done at body temperature, it is a better option for diabetic clients then waxing because it does not heat the tissue.
Contraindications
Clients cannot be sugared while using Accutane.
It is recommended to wait at least 72 hours after using retinoids or anything that can cause the skin to be sensitive.
